Kansai Airport

8 min read

If you’re planning to drive to Kansai International Airport, you may not be sure which parking lot to use.

This article rounds up parking information near Kansai International Airport. Each parking lot has different features. Please check the precautions for using a parking lot as well, and consider other transportation options before making your choice.

Kansai International Airport’s official parking lots

First, let’s look at Kansai International Airport’s official parking lots.

・Overview of the official parking lots

・Toll and parking fees

・How to get to each parking lot

・Accessible parking spaces

・Parking reservations

The official parking lots are located right next to Kansai International Airport, so you can park your car and head straight to your terminal. This is a great option if you’re uneasy about leaving your car somewhere far from the airport.

Overview of the official parking lots

The official parking lots range from P1 to P6. Choose a parking lot based on the terminal you’ll be using.

P1 and P2 are multi-story parking structures, while P3 through P6 are ground-level lots.

You can check congestion and any restrictions on the Kansai International Airport (official website), so it’s a good idea to check before you go.

Toll and parking fees

If you drive to Kansai International Airport, you’ll need to cross the Sky Gate Bridge access bridge, which incurs a toll. Keep in mind that you’ll need to pay both the toll and the parking fee.

【Toll (round trip)】

Kei car (light vehicle)¥730
Standard car¥940

Parking fees at the official lots are as follows.

【Parking fees】

Every 15 minutes (free for the first 30 minutes)¥100–¥110
Over 6 hours 15 minutes up to 24 hoursFlat rate of ¥2,620
Over 24 hours (2nd day onward)Up to ¥1,570 added per day
Over 144 hours (7th day onward)Up to ¥1,050 added per day

Discounts are also available with receipts or a KIX-ITM card, so your actual parking fee may vary depending on how you use it.

How to get to each parking lot

The 3rd floor of P1/P2 (multi-story parking) connects to the 2nd floor of Terminal 1. After passing through the tollgate inside the airport, the road splits toward Terminal 1 and Terminal 2 — head toward Terminal 1.

If you’re using Terminal 2, P5/P6 are the nearest parking lots. Head toward Terminal 2.

Vehicles taller than 2.1m cannot enter P1/P2 (multi-story parking). If your vehicle exceeds this height, please use P3–P6 (ground-level lots). Microbuses should use P3.

Note that parking lots may sometimes be restricted, so it’s a good idea to check parking information in advance.

Accessible parking spaces

Accessible parking spaces are available in P1, P2, and P5.

・P1: 20 spaces on the 3rd floor, 27 on the 4th floor

・P2: 19 spaces on the 3rd floor, 10 on the 4th floor

・P5: 23 spaces

Those who meet the required conditions are eligible for a disability discount, which reduces the parking fee by half — be sure to check.

Parking reservations

P1 has reserved parking spaces available for a reservation fee of ¥520. Using this service requires free membership registration.

However, as of November 2021, “parking reservations are suspended for the time being,” so please check the official website for the latest information.

Private parking lots near Kansai International Airport

In terms of price alone, private parking lots tend to be cheaper, but some require the hassle of handing your car over to an operator, and some are far enough from the airport that getting there takes extra time.

Here’s an overview of private parking lots near Kansai International Airport — compare their systems and rates before choosing.

Watch out for unauthorized operators working in restricted airport areas

Parking operators soliciting business at the 1st floor arrivals terminal or 4th floor departures terminal are operating illegally.

Kansai International Airport prohibits private parking operators from soliciting business in front of the terminals, and police do enforce this. Airport-authorized operators are required to take reservations only at designated locations within the airport (in front of Aero Plaza) — please be aware of this.

The difference between valet-style and shuttle-style services

Private parking lots near Kansai International Airport come in two types: valet-style and shuttle-style. Here’s how they differ.

【Valet-style】

You drive to the airport yourself and hand your car over to staff at the reception area. On your return, they’ll bring your car back to the airport for you. Since you’re entrusting your keys to staff who will move your car, it’s important to check in advance what kind of facility your car will be kept at.

【Shuttle-style】

The parking facility shuttles you to and from Kansai International Airport, both ways. You drive directly to the parking facility yourself.

Comparing parking fees

Here are five private parking operators near Kansai International Airport, along with their rates.

TypeParking fee
Kansai Airport Shuttle (official website)Valet2 days/1 night: from ¥4,840 — 7 days/6 nights: from ¥7,590
Art Parking (official website)Valet3 days/2 nights: from ¥5,000 — 7 days/6 nights: from ¥7,000
Pacific Parking Kansai (official website)ValetUp to 10 days/9 nights: from ¥3,500 — beyond 10 nights: from ¥6,000
JP Parking (official website)Valet2 days/1 night: from ¥3,500 — 7 days/6 nights: from ¥6,000
Rinku Parking (official website)Shuttle2 days/1 night: from ¥3,900 — 7 days/6 nights: from ¥6,900

Rates and optional services vary by operator. If you’re uneasy about handing over your keys and letting someone else drive your car, a shuttle-style service is recommended.

Be mindful of distance and location when choosing budget parking

Privately run budget parking lots can cost as little as around ¥400 per day, but some are located within private residential properties or tucked away in residential neighborhoods, making them hard to find. Note that operating hours may also be limited.

Another option is to use the coin-operated parking lots around Rinku Town Station, next to Kansai Airport Station. There are coin parking lots within a 10-minute walk of the station offering rates starting from ¥400 for 24 hours.

From Kansai Airport Station to Rinku Town Station takes about 5 minutes by train and costs ¥370 one way. Be sure to factor in this travel time when planning.

Things to keep in mind when using a parking lot

Here are some things to keep in mind when using a parking lot.

・The lot may be full and unavailable

・Trouble may occur

Let’s look at each of these.

The lot may be full and unavailable

If you use a parking lot without a reservation, the spot you had in mind may be full. If the lot offers reservations, it’s a good idea to book in advance.

Trouble may occur

Privately managed lots and coin parking, where many different people come and go, carry some security concerns. If you plan to leave your car for several days, it’s best to choose a location with solid management.

Official and authorized parking lots aren’t necessarily 100% safe either, so be especially cautious of unauthorized operators. If you’re worried about potential trouble, consider a transportation option other than driving.
