Haneda Airport Airport Access

The limousine bus lets you travel from Haneda Airport to major stations without any transfers. Since you don’t need to carry your luggage yourself, it’s also a convenient way to get from the airport all the way home. That said, you might be wondering whether you actually need a reservation.

In this article, we’ll explain whether you need a reservation for the Haneda Airport limousine bus, how to make one, and more. We’ll also cover how to board the bus and recommend other transport options, so if you’re planning to use the bus, be sure to read on.

You Can Ride the Haneda Airport Limousine Bus Without a Reservation

The limousine bus is an express bus service connecting Haneda Airport to major stations in Tokyo, Chiba, Kanagawa, and beyond. It’s mainly operated by Tokyo Airport Transport, though some routes are jointly operated with other bus companies.

You can board from any terminal at Haneda Airport, and as long as seats are available on the day, you can ride without a reservation. Some routes don’t accept reservations at all, so a seat isn’t always guaranteed.

Many routes allow advance online booking. If there’s a specific departure you absolutely need to catch, or if you’re using a route with few daily departures, booking ahead of time gives you peace of mind.

For detailed schedules and whether reservations are available for each route, check the Tokyo Airport Transport official website.

Haneda Airport Limousine Bus Reservations Open One Month in Advance

For routes that accept advance reservations, you can book from one month before your travel date (the same date in the previous month) up until 5 minutes before departure. Use the limousine bus online reservation service.

For phone reservations, you can book from one month before your travel date (the same date in the previous month) up until 11:59 p.m. the day before travel.

Changes Are Free, but Cancellations Incur a Fee

If you’d like to switch to a different departure, you can change your booking for free up until 5 minutes before the departure time. Use the “Reservation Cancellation/Change and Receipt Issuance” URL included in your limousine bus reservation confirmation email to make the change. You can change your booking up to 10 times free of charge.

If you cancel your ride entirely after booking, a ¥110 refund handling fee applies. Note that once you’re within 5 minutes of departure, no refund is available even if you don’t board. The only exception is if your scheduled bus is cancelled, in which case you’ll receive an automatic refund with no fee.

How to Book the Haneda Airport Limousine Bus

Here are three ways to book the limousine bus.

  1. Online booking
  2. Purchasing at a ticket machine on the day
  3. Phone reservation

Let’s look at each in detail.

1. Online Booking

Online booking is the easiest method and also the simplest to change later. You can make a reservation from the limousine bus website.

Enter your departure point, destination, number of passengers, and proceed to payment. Routes departing from Haneda Airport require payment at the time of booking, which can be made by credit card, Alipay, and other methods.

Once your booking is complete, a QR code will be sent to you by email — save it so you can display it when boarding.

2. Purchasing at a Ticket Machine on the Day

Even without an advance reservation, you can still board if seats are available on the day. Since it’s hard to predict your flight’s arrival time or exactly when you’ll be ready to leave after collecting your luggage, those with flexible schedules should consider buying a ticket on the day.

At Terminals 1 and 2, the arrival lobby is on the 1st floor, while at Terminal 3 it’s on the 2nd floor. Bus ticket machines and staffed ticket counters are available there, so check your preferred departure and purchase your ticket. Cash, transportation IC cards, and credit cards are all accepted.

3. Booking by Phone

Some routes can also be booked by phone (phone reservations are not available for departures from Terminal 3). Call the Limousine Bus Reservation Center: 03-3665-7220.

Tell the operator your travel date, departure point, destination, and number of passengers. At the end of the call, you’ll be given a reservation number, so be sure to write it down.

On the day of travel, give your reservation number at the limousine bus counter, ticket machine, or to the crew at the bus stop, depending on your boarding location, and complete payment there. At counters and ticket machines, you can pay with cash, a transportation IC card, or a credit card. Payment methods on board the bus vary by operator, so check in advance.

Haneda Airport Limousine Bus Stops and Ticket Machines

Here’s a look at the limousine bus stops and ticket machine locations at each Haneda Airport terminal. Be sure to check the bus stop for the terminal you’ll be using.

The limousine bus stop at Terminal 1 is on the 1st floor. After disembarking and collecting your luggage, you’ll exit into the 1st-floor arrival lobby.

Head straight outside and you’ll find the bus and taxi stops — check the board to see which numbered stop your bus departs from.

Terminal 2

As with Terminal 1, Terminal 2 also has its bus stop in the 1st-floor arrival lobby. The bus stop differs depending on your destination, so be sure to check.

Terminal 3

At Terminal 3, after collecting your luggage, you’ll exit into the 2nd-floor arrival lobby. The bus ticket counter and ticket machines are on the 2nd floor, while the bus stop itself is on the 1st floor. There are also ticket machines on the 1st floor, so it’s worth considering which to use depending on how crowded it is.

The Boarding Process for the Haneda Airport Limousine Bus

For first-time riders, or anyone who wants to confirm what to do on the day, here’s how the boarding process works.

  1. Reserve or purchase a ticket
  2. Head to the bus stop
  3. Present your ticket or QR code
  4. Check your suitcase and board

The specifics may vary slightly by operator, so treat this as a general overview.

1. Reserve or Purchase a Ticket

If you’d like to reserve a seat, book in advance. For routes that don’t accept reservations, or if you’d rather choose your departure after arriving at the airport, purchase a same-day ticket. You can’t board without securing a seat, so be sure to complete this step before boarding.

Also, if you’d like to pay with a transportation IC card or use a bus coupon ticket, you’ll need to get a timed ticket at the staffed ticket counter.

2. Head to the Bus Stop

Once you’ve secured your seat, head to the bus stop. Check the bus stop that matches your destination.

At the stop, passengers line up in lanes 1 through 3 according to departure time. Confirm your departure and line up in the correct lane.

For bus stop locations by destination, check the Haneda Airport official website.

3. Present Your Ticket or QR Code

When the bus arrives, present your ticket to the staff or crew. If you booked online, show your QR code. If you only have a timed ticket, pay with your transportation IC card or coupon ticket when boarding.

4. Check Your Suitcase and Board

Once boarding procedures are complete, check your suitcase and get on the bus. You can check up to two pieces of luggage per person, so tell the crew your destination and have them load your bags into the bus’s luggage compartment.

FAQ About the Haneda Airport Limousine Bus

Here are some frequently asked questions about the Haneda Airport limousine bus.

When can I book the Haneda Airport limousine bus, and until when?

For online bookings, you can reserve from one month before your departure date up until 5 minutes before departure. For phone bookings, you can reserve until 11:59 p.m. the day before travel.

However, some routes don’t accept advance reservations at all, meaning you can only buy a ticket on the day. For details, check the Tokyo Airport Transport website.

Can I cancel a Haneda Airport limousine bus reservation?

You can cancel up until 5 minutes before the bus’s departure time. If you booked online, cancel through the website; if you booked by phone or bought a same-day ticket, handle it at the ticket counter.

Changing your departure is free, but cancelling incurs a ¥110 refund handling fee. Also note that cancellations aren’t possible once you’re within 5 minutes of the departure time.

Do I need a reservation for the Haneda Airport limousine bus?

A reservation isn’t mandatory — you can board without one as long as seats are available. That said, we recommend booking in advance in the following cases:

  • You absolutely must catch a specific departure and can’t compromise
  • You’re using a route with few daily departures, where waiting times can be long
  • You want to secure seats together for your family or friends

In other cases, it’s often smoother to buy your ticket after your flight arrives, since that way you won’t need to bother with any change procedures.

How many suitcases can I bring?

On Tokyo Airport Transport’s limousine buses, you can check up to two suitcases per person. Each suitcase must be no larger than 50 x 60 x 120 cm and weigh no more than 30 kg.

You can also place items in the overhead racks above your seat, so there’s no need to check smaller bags like backpacks in the luggage compartment.

Some operators only allow one piece of luggage per person, so be sure to check before boarding.

How long after my flight lands can I catch a bus?

For domestic flights, it typically takes about 20-30 minutes from disembarking to reaching the arrival lobby. If you’ve checked luggage, add roughly another 20 minutes — so factoring in the walk, a bus departing around one hour after your scheduled arrival time is likely to be a safe bet.

For international flights, the whole process — immigration, baggage claim, and customs — often takes about 1 to 1.5 hours from landing.

In either case, weather and airport conditions can often throw off your schedule. Haneda Airport has plenty of restaurants, cafés, and shops, so unless you’re in a hurry, it’s a great place to pass the time. We recommend not booking a tight departure in advance, and instead buying your ticket with some buffer after you arrive at the airport.

If You Want to Book From Haneda Airport to Your Destination, We Recommend NearMe

“The limousine bus is convenient, but I’m worried about routes that don’t accept reservations” — does this sound like you?

If you’re on the fence about using the limousine bus to get from Haneda Airport to your home, we’d recommend NearMe. Here’s an overview of NearMe and how to use it.

Overview of NearMe

NearMe is a service operated by NearMe, Inc. that picks you up and takes you to your destination. It’s fully reservation-based, and since you share a spacious shuttle with other passengers, it’s more affordable than a taxi.

Its biggest advantage is door-to-door transport from the airport to wherever you want to go. Unlike the limousine bus, you can travel all the way home comfortably without having to carry your own luggage. You’re not limited to your home, either — you can also be dropped off at your hotel, workplace, or wherever you need to visit on a business trip.

Unlike buses or trains, there’s no need to head to a stop or station — you can be picked up from your home, workplace, or anywhere else you choose. You can also check one suitcase per person for free, which is handy when you’re traveling with heavy luggage.

NearMe currently offers two riding options to suit your needs.

① Door-to-Door: We pick you up right in front of “wherever you want” — your home, hotel, workplace, and more. Ideal for when you have heavy luggage or the weather is bad. ② NearMe Spot: Under this plan, you gather at a designated “virtual stop” near a station. In exchange for a short walk there, you get an even better rate than door-to-door service!

There might even be a spot near your nearest station. New spots are continually being added near major stations, including Jiyugaoka, Sangenjaya, Gakugei-daigaku, Seijogakuen-mae, Nakameguro, and Komazawa-daigaku-mae.
