Keisei Ueno Station may not be familiar to everyone, but it’s an extremely convenient station for airport access, and one that’s popular with foreign visitors too.

This time we introduce various ways to travel from Ueno, home to Keisei Ueno Station, to Narita Airport.

Ways to Travel Between Ueno and Narita Airport

Here we introduce the following options connecting Ueno and Narita Airport:

・Travel by train ・Travel by limousine bus ・Travel using NearMe Airport (hired car)

Travel by Train

When thinking about traveling from Ueno, the train is probably the first mode of transport that comes to mind.

Trains run frequently and let you keep costs down.

However, you’ll need to travel while carrying your large luggage the whole way.

Travel with NearMe Airport

NearMe Airport is a way to make traveling with large luggage comfortable.

Once you specify your hotel or home location, a hired car comes to pick you up, letting you travel in comfort.

Using a regular taxi normally costs more than ¥20,000, but with this service you can travel for ¥4,980.

That said, it’s still a bit pricier than the train.

From here, we’ll introduce in more detail what transport options are available and what benefits each one offers.

About Traveling by Train

Keisei Ueno Station is about an 8-minute walk from JR Ueno Station.

The Skyliner runs from this Keisei Ueno Station, taking you to Narita Airport without any transfers.

Fare

The fare for the Skyliner is ¥2,520.

You can also travel via the Keisei Main Line Limited Express, which costs ¥1,050.

Travel Time

The travel times for the Skyliner and the Keisei Main Line Limited Express are as follows:

  • Skyliner: 44 minutes
  • Keisei Main Line Limited Express: from 1 hour 18 minutes

With a fare difference of around ¥1,500, there’s also a gap of more than 30 minutes in travel time.

Skyliner vs. Keisei Main Line Limited Express

The Skyliner has a shorter travel time and can be reserved in advance. This makes it a great choice for a more comfortable trip when your travel plans are already fixed.

The Keisei Main Line Limited Express, on the other hand, takes more than 30 minutes and can’t be reserved. However, since seating is unreserved, it never sells out, and with frequent departures you can hop on even for a sudden trip.

Points to Note About the Skyliner

To ride the Skyliner, you need to purchase not just a boarding ticket but also a Liner ticket.

Keisei Ueno Station has a ticket counter, so there’s no need to worry about buying the wrong ticket.

You can also purchase a Liner ticket in advance through the official Keisei Electric Railway website.

Points to Note About the Keisei Main Line Limited Express

Since you can book a seat on the Keisei Main Line with just a regular boarding ticket, there’s nothing special to watch out for when riding.

However, unlike the Skyliner, many commuters and students also use this line.

If you’re planning to travel during rush hour, it might be worth considering a different mode of transport.

About Traveling by Limousine Bus

No limousine buses depart from around Ueno Station.

The nearest place with a direct limousine bus service is around Asakusa Station.

If you’d like to know about other departure points or make a reservation, please check the Airport Limousine official website.

Limousine Bus Details

As an example, here are the details for traveling by limousine bus from Asakusa to Narita Airport.

Travel time: approximately 2 hours

Fare: ¥2,800

This is more expensive than the Skyliner fare, takes longer, and isn’t noticeably more comfortable.

If you’re around Ueno Station, we’d recommend using a service other than the limousine bus.
